You wouldn’t believe how many items of clothing I get pitched each week. All promise to ‘transform’ my wardrobe. Few do.
So, when French Connection’s three-way trench landed, I was sceptical. A sleeveless coat, cropped jacket and trench?
‘It’s a clever idea,’ I venture as we unpack the sample.
‘Is it, though?’ asks our French picture editor, raising an eyebrow.

But her Gallic cynicism is misplaced because not only is this piece clever, it’s very chic, too.
‘We’ve got ourselves a munte (much nicer than expected, if you’re wondering) piece,’ I cry, dancing into my editor’s office wearing the sleeveless segment. Ed agrees. She loves the sleeveless iteration, too.
