PENDANT LIGHTS
Whether hung singly or in a cluster, these provide stylish and targeted lighting over specific areas such as a dining table, kitchen island or reading nook
Make your pendant light part of the room design by picking out shades in a similar colour to the walls. Woodedit.co.uk sells a wide range of wooden dining tables and chairs
Ceramic, £85.99, zarahome.com and Geometric shade, £129, houseof.com
Textured glass, £92, pooky.com and Glass and antique brass, £149, marksandspencer.com

FLOOR LAMPS
It’s important to consider the height of the room and size of furniture so that you get the scale right for a floor lamp. For example, an oversized or arc lamp can make a compact room feel smaller, whereas a straight base and single lampshade will illuminate without taking up valuable space
In this bedroom designed by Studio Peake, the floor lamp has several shades to avoid harsh night-time glare. A dimmer switch will achieve a similar effect
Mushroom shade, £45, habitat.co.uk and Marble and rattan, £309, lightsand lamps.com

WALL LIGHTS
A stylish accent that packs a punch without dominating the space. These look best at around five feet from the floor but do consider the height of your ceilings and adjust the position accordingly
If you want to install wall lights in the bathroom, you’ll need to consider the IP rating (how waterproof a light is and what voltage it has, depending on where it’s going in relation to the waterworks). Houseof.com sells a range of options
Brass with smoked glass, £69, made.com and Brass with striped shade, £20, dunelm.com
