Cat Deeley's celebrity beauty secrets: Celery juice for breakfast... and the high street mascara that outperforms all the posh brands

NUTRITION

When it comes to food I think you can’t go wrong with the Mediterranean diet, and the more you can stay away from processed food the better – anything that can exist for a year without going off can’t be good for you. I’m not a sweetie person, but I do eat cheese, and my favourite thing is a glass of champagne.

I was reading about fasting and have realised that I’ve been doing it for years, although not deliberately.

We eat dinner as a family [Cat and her husband Patrick Kielty have two boys aged six and four] around six o’clock, which works well for me as I don’t like going to sleep with a full tummy. I don’t really have breakfast – just a celery juice with ginger and cucumber and then a cup of coffee at around 10am.

FRAGRANCE

My friend, the make-up artist Amanda Grossman, uses our E11even Fragrance Oil (which she and I founded together), on me before I hit the red carpet or do live TV. She shoos everyone out of the room and we take a calm moment. The magical mix of essential oils just makes me feel better. It grounds you and creates a sense of wellbeing. Now, even when I’m not doing something so dramatic – say, the double school drop-off – I take a few moments to breathe it in and it makes a real difference.

MAKE-UP

I love L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Mascara – it outperforms all the posher ones. I think that wearing too much make-up can be ageing, but I like Charlotte Tilbury’s lip liners and powders and Yves Saint Laurent Touche Éclat. I use Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream on my lips as I find normal lip glosses too drying. And Kevyn Aucoin lash curlers make a massive difference to my eyes – even if they do look like torture devices.

During the 1990s I plucked my brows into oblivion, so now I get them laminated. It’s like the reverse of a perm – they are made straighter so that they end up looking fuller and fluffier. I need to make the most of the three hairs I have left.

HAIR

In LA I go to Kadi Lee, who does all these amazing people like Julia Roberts. She has a beautiful salon and you can go outside in your foils and watch the sun go down with a margarita in hand. In London I go to Mads at the Josh Wood salon. I use Kérastase products because my hair needs lots of moisture. It has always been really thick but it’s become a bit thinner so I’ve started taking supplements from The Nue Co.

FITNESS

I absolutely love my yoga. I’ve been doing it for 25 years. When I started, I just wanted to be able to touch my toes. Now I can put my hands on the floor. I use a website called Glo Yoga which has classes of different lengths, so even if you only have half an hour to spare, you can do one. It’s good to get the blood flowing.

SKINCARE

I’ve used SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic Vitamin C Serum in the morning for a long time. I also like Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum and Ella & Jo The Glow Up Enzyme Mask. It has papaya, pineapple and pumpkin in it and it gives the right level of tingling – it gets rid of the dead skin and makes you glowy. If I need a boost pre-filming, I reach for a Lancer sheet mask, which I keep stocked up in the fridge.

NAILS

I get a gel manicure but I never have the time to go to the salon and get the lacquer removed. So then I end up picking it off and ruining my nails in the process.
